Social Support CALD

A group photo of the Italian group enjoying an outing

"I came to Australia at an old age. I was worried that I would spend the rest of my life in loneliness due to a language barrier and lack of the companion. However, the big range of pleasurable activities (organised by HHRCS) enriched my life and made my life full of happiness" Keyin, Gladesville, 88

This program is a caring, and friendly service which aims to facilitate social inclusion of older people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Our clients come from many different cultural backgrounds including Italian, Spanish, Iranian, Chinese and Afghan. The groups are run by our staff and volunteer community leaders. In consultation with the community leaders we design and facilitate a range of social activities, which aim to support, promote and enhance the independence, quality of life and wellbeing of our clients.  We liaise with other CALD community providers (i.e. Iranian Community Organisation or C.O.A.S.I.T.)  to provide culturally sensitive services

Each group has its calendar of  activities which is published bimonthly and in the community language of the group we work with. The activity calendars are mailed or e-mailed to the clients according to their preference.

What program can I choose?

There are different groups each week with options to meet people's cultural preferences including:

  • Spanish Group: every first and third Thursday of each month
