The carers group decided at last year's weekend away, that their three days were not enough, so this year they enjoyed four days away from the 10th to the 13th of November 2016. The group decided to revisit Abernethy House, near Cessnock. The location was great, providing seclusion while at the same time being near excellent shops and restaurants. Further, the venue itself was wonderful as it catered for both the needs of the group as well as individuals. Twelve carers attended, eleven from the Young Adults with Disabilities (YADs)'s group and one from the Acquired Brain Injury/Spinal injury/Stroke (ABISS) organisation.
Friday morning the group set off for some wine tasting followed by lunch. After dinner, the group carried on their tradition of playing a game of Kris Cringle before gathering in the large lounge for fun and laughter.
On Saturday morning the group enjoyed some retail therapy followed by a leisurely three course lunch at the Harvest Restaurant on Hope Estate.
On Saturday evening, after a light dinner the group were given various options such as craft with Lyn, me time or visiting the Christmas lights at the Hunter Valley Gardens.
Each morning some members enjoyed an early morning walk.
On Sunday the group crafted with Lyn before packing left-overs from dinner and taking going on a leisurely lunch before heading home.
The carers commented on what a lovely time they had, and asked "could we make it five days next year?"
