Emergency Relief

What is the Emergency Relief program? The program aims to assist people to deal with their immediate crisis situation in a way that maintains their dignity and encourages self-reliance.

Hunters Hill Ryde Community Services will:
1. Provide short term emergency, financial and or material assistance; and/or
2. Refer clients to other services that help to address underlying causes of financial crisis, including:
• Financial counselling services
• Drug and alcohol rehabilitation services
• Supported accommodation services
• Mental health services

Emergency Relief is not an income support payment. It is expected that in most cases assistance will be for a one-off purpose.

What kind of assistance is available? Assistance is primarily provided in the form of:
• Food vouchers - These can be used at local supermarkets to buy food and domestic items
• Chemist assistance - Medical and prescription assistance at the local Hunters Hill pharmacy
• Utility accounts - Vouchers for Telstra, Gas, Electricity and Water accounts
