Last year on Wednesday 17 December, Ciena Australia, a telecommunications organisation locally based in North Ryde delivered the Christmas spirit. Ciena staff donated 9 plentiful hampers and delivered "Tree of Joy" gifts to HHRCS clients. Ciena Australia employees volunteered their time to deliver the Christmas hampers. Their goodwill and commitment to spread the joy and Christmas cheer was abundant.
Tree of Joy is a program launched by Ryde Rotary involving the whole community, providing an opportunity to reach out and help those in need. A Christmas tree is placed in each shopping centre, and local charities such as HHRCS hang envelopes on the tree with some basic details of a disadvantaged person or family in the local area. Shoppers choose which person to support by buying a gift for that person and that gift is delivered to the family for Christmas.
