On the 18th of February an enjoyable Chinese New Year’s party was held at Blandville Court. This was made possible thanks to the successful collaboration of the HHRCS Social Support Team, our valued volunteers, and the HHRCS Food Service Coordinator, Kaye Batten.
Traditional Chinese decorations lit up the community room creating a festival atmosphere as forty residents celebrated the Year of the Snake. During the event the HHRCS Social Support Team Leader, Maria Maguire extended her warmest wishes for a wonderful year ahead to all residents. The party started with a choir singing ‘Happy Chinese New Year’, followed by a solo played on the traditional flute, the Chinese Sheng Gourd, and a Chinese violin performance.
A special note of thanks goes to Aussie David Phelan who went to great lengths to play traditional Chinese songs on his flute. The Chinese Traditional Dancing Group, “Golden Girls” entertained everyone with their beautiful voices, colourful costumes and gracious dancing. There was laughter, cheer and applause throughout the event as everyone enjoyed the lunch, the entertainment, and the riddle competition. Before the celebration finished, Mr Zhangning Li, a Blandville Court resident, donated a giant winter melon from his for all participants to enjoy.
