B.I.R.D.S. |
The Brain Injury Respite and Development Service
(B.I.R.D.S.) is a not for profit service funded by the Home and Community Care Program
(HACC) to provide social support for people with an Acquired Brain Injury
(ABI) living in the Ryde and Hunters Hill areas. |

| B.I.R.D.S. caters for |
Young adults, 18 – 35 years, who may have acquired a brain injury through
• Car accidents
• Poisoning from alcohol and / or drugs
• Stroke
• Other illnesses such as brain tumours or infections |

A small contribution is required for each activity.

| Support Group |
If you have an acquired brain injury independently in the community and, feel isolated and would like to meet people who understand and face similar challenges then join us for informal gatherings on a regular basis. Bookings for this group are essential. The co-ordination of this group is conducted by group members and a group leader all of whom have a brain injury. |
| Volunteering |
Our volunteers have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and work in a dynamic and worthwhile environment in a role that is both challenging and satisfying.

| The Recreation Club |
The Recreation Club operates on a Saturday and is specifically for individuals who enjoy socialising and group interaction. A variety of activities is offered; the group has enjoyed attending the horse races, BBQ’s, computer and internet skills, beach picnics, Sailability and Jazz Festivals.
Group members are encouraged to participate in the planning and development of the program. |
| Dinner Club |
The Dinner Club is an evening program starting at 6pm. The group members are encouraged to decide which dinner venue they will choose. A desire to socialise and take part in a group activity is essential. Dinner destinations have included Yum Cha, the movies, Pub Trivia, restaurants, beach BBQ’s, live bands, theatre and putt putt golf. |
